1.  Do you find electronic trading allows you to trade more effectively?

“Most definitely. The automotive aftermarket is an increasingly complex trading environment and electronic trading makes it very easy for customers to access new to range parts in the quickest time possible. Most people have experience of online ordering and so the automotive aftermarket should not be exempt from embracing the technology available to them

PACT provides motor factors with the tools so that they can check parts availability and place orders online while the customer remains on the phone. This is the kind of service that is expected from motor factors and we’ve been a leader in this area.

We have been a long term advocate of PACT and electronic trading, and benefitted from the efficiencies it brings. This includes customers being able to send and receive orders and check stock and core availability electronically. The results are that customers have instant access to the widest range of rotating electrics’ products, saving us and our customers considerable time and expense.

In addition to savings, PACT enables us to take new brands and products – which now includes window regulators and wiper motors – to customers in the most efficient  way possible.”

2.  What trends are there with electronic trading that may differ from previous ordering methods: Amount of order, time of order etc

“It’s a big advantage for the distributor because they can start an order, get called away to service a customer, and then return to that order. This allows for a more concise but larger order. There are patterns of business and trends but the flexibility is a real benefit for customers.

3.  Do you find electronic trading reduces human error and ensures a ‘right pick first time’ order service?

“I think there is a real trust in the “systems” now to the point where electronic trading is the most viable method of ordering. By this I point to the fact that electronic trading reduces the ability for errors at both supplier and factor. There’s no time wasted when enquiries don’t turn into orders and all orders can be integrated into a business management system.

Electronic trading has become an indispensable tool for the aftermarket and one that businesses now rely on as part of their daily routine.”

4.  How much of your business with parts distributors is conducted electronically?

Ninety percent of trading now is through PACT and electronic trading. We couldn’t operate without it and is a key driver in reducing waste within our business,

5.  What are your thoughts on the uptake of electronic ordering by customers? In such a service led sector, has the marketplace been quick / or slow (in your opinion) to embrace electronic trading?

“In the beginning, there were pockets of customers using electronic trading and this wasn’t confined to larger businesses. Today, it’s widely embraced and part of the fabric of a modern aftermarket business.”

Going forward, we’re working with PACT to move into the CV sector as we continue to refine our rotating electrics offer to CV parts distributors. It will help us considerably as we have the foundations in place to trade with these customers in the most effective way possible.”
